Hair Transplant AT COSMEDICA CLINIC
Hope after hair loss: A hair transplant can bring back the desired full head of hair. Afflicted areas of hair are not irretrievably lost.
What is a hair transplant?
A hair transplant is a type of hair restoration surgery during which healthy hair growing on the back and the side of the head, the so-called donor area, is transplanted to the areas of the scalp that suffer from hair loss.
Unlike the hair on top of the scalp, the donor hair growing on the back and side is immune to the damaging effects of dihydrotestosterone, an androgen that causes pattern baldness.
But a hair transplant operation is not only performed for patients whose hair is completely gone. This is why it‘s also referred to as hair restoration as it is also applied to patients with thinning hair or other types of hair loss, such as alopecia areata or circular hair loss.
What are the different hair transplant techniques available?
At Cosmedica Clinic, we use only the most modern, safe, and effective hair transplant techniques. This means that outdated techniques like the Follicular Unit Transplantation FUT, also called „strip surgery“, where a strip of skin is taken from the donor area and harvested for hair follicles, are not being used at our award-winning clinic. This is for many reasons, one of them being that it leaves a visible linear scar at the back of the head.
Instead, we focus on the newer Follicular Unit Extraction FUE and Direct Hair Implantation DHI techniques, especially the improved FUE Sapphire and Micro Sapphire DHI methods. Please click the links to find more information about those.
What does the procedure promise?
First of all, the main purpose of any type of hair transplant surgery is to recover lost hair and have a better appearance. These aesthetic expectations are great motivation for our patients. Although hair transplantation is a surgical procedure, new techniques help to prevent pain.
Hair transplantation is a type of plastic surgery that is becoming increasingly popular. The methods used for hair transplants are also developing rapidly. In recent years, the FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) technique used in hair transplantation has become widespread.
Hair transplantation clinics rapidly adopted it because it is easy to carry out and is pretty much painless. FUE hair transplants not only reduce pain and other side effects but also feature excellent results because individual hairs are being transplanted.
There is no stitching needed with this technique. This is an important factor in the prevention of pain. Even though this is rare, in some cases a slight amount of pain is felt when the effect of anaesthesia wears off. However, this is easily remedied with the help of painkillers prescribed by your expert doctor.
Thanks to the accelerated healing process, you can return to work within a few weeks. It can take up to 12 months for total hair regrowth and a full head of hair.
