A hair transplant is a type of hair restoration surgery during which healthy hair growing on the back and the side of the head, the so-called donor area, is transplanted to the areas of the scalp that suffer from hair loss. The number of grafts required depends on the size of the balding area and the desired density — you can learn more in our guide on how many hair grafts you may need.
What is a hair transplant?
Unlike the hair on top of the scalp, the donor hair growing on the back and side is immune to the damaging effects of dihydrotestosterone, an androgen that causes pattern baldness.
